Horseback in the Land of the Drokpa...

We offered our first Tibetan Horseback trek in 1986 and built friendships with our Chinese and Tibetan partners in Chengdu and Zoergai that will last a lifetime. However, modern China has reached deeply into the heartland of this nomadic region opening it to immigration, development, roads and for us, a loss of the unique experience of travel with the drokpa. The area where we spent so many amazing hours on horseback is now fenced and cross fenced. Natural events have also impacted this area heavily, particularly the earthquakes in 2008. We are suspending offering this trip while we seek new areas where the remote, nomadic experience can still be found.
